Call and Response

.

Call and Response

This morning during my early morning Sacred Time, I was listening to the birds singing their songs that I call the songs of Love, Joy, and Gratitude. This morning I heard two birds singing back and forth to each other. One bird would sing a certain melody, and the other bird would sing the exact same melody in response. Call and response like that can go on for ten, fifteen, twenty minutes or longer. One time the bird that was giving the call hesitated longer than usual, and then heard the other bird, which was off in the distance start the call and response with another bird. At the same time I noticed that, I think the bird that was originally giving the call noticed it. That bird started to call louder than it was originally. It did that for a five or six calls, then it changed its call to another melody and repeated that call faster than usual; there was still no response form the other bird, because it was still occupied in call and response with another bird. I heard the bird try to regain the attention of the other bird up until just now; that means that it had been trying to regain the attention of the other bird for around an hour.

I know that someone may be asking; why are you writing about birds singing back and forth to each other? I am glad you asked that question. The lesson and significance of this situation to me is this. Communication between two people, two birds, or any other creatures such as humans and animals is extremely important; especially how we communicate. Example; when two people are communicating; as I like to say, they must be talk with each other, and must not be talking to each other. To truly communicate there must be an equal exchange between the parties that are talking. There cannot be a dictator of the conversation, or one who dominates to the degree that he or she does all or most of the talking; because if that is the case it is not communicating at all, it is dictating.

When two people are communicating with each other, their attention must be finely tuned into that conversation, and that conversation only. Their conversation cannot be divided between watching TV, listening to another person, or thinking about something that has nothing at all to do with the conversation. Doing such is unfair and disrespectful to the other person. If we are not completely into the conversation we are having, the other person (or birds in the case above) will eventually pick up on the fact that all of our attention and energy is not in our conversation, and then they possibly would become distant as well. That could lead to both having a superficial conversation, or the one that is not fully being paid attention to shifting to a conversation with someone else. Like in the case of the two birds, when the one that was not giving full attention to the other realizes it has lost the attention of the one it was talking to, an tries to reestablish communication, he or she may not get any response; no matter how forceful or persistent he or she may be. This brings to mind the old saying; “you don’t miss your water till your well runs dry”. We must always show that we fully appreciate the communion and other relationships that we have with others; and one way of doing so is to give them our full attention in whatever we are doing together.

Here is a very important caveat I must add to this topic. Along with our full attention when communicating with others, we also must be completely honest and open in our conversation; both are linked to respect, and there must be respect in all that we do, especially when we are communing one with another.

So as you can see, this is more than a story about two birds I heard singing outside my window this morning, it is a lesson I received concerning proper communication, honesty, and respect. The things we can learn from any source including singing birds, when we are open. Universal Intelligence speaks to us through an unlimited amount of vessels, that is why we must go through this experience called life, with our Spiritual Eyes and Our Spiritual Ears wide open at all times; as well as not discounting any source that has come to teach us a lesson. Hey, that source could be a child, maybe your own child, or possibly even two little birdies singing their morning songs of Love, Joy, and Gratitude. If I had to pick one word to clearly broadcast what I am saying here, I would use the word “Focus”. We must be completely focused on everything that we do.

Here is my call to you today from the very depths of my Spirit.

“I Love You!
